July, 2007
It's been a few months since my last update and unfortunately it has been a difficult time. My brother passed away unexpectedly. Quite a shock. I was on my way to a fitting for Charlie Wilson's War starring Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks and I got a call from my mother that my brother had died. Needless to say my plans came to a screeching halt as I took time off to deal and heal and be with my family. I am finally getting back into the game but not after taking stock of my own life. My brother's death - a result of a lifetime of depression, stress and feelings of helplessness - has forced me to look at my life and see the changes I need to make. The major one is being true to myself, and not sell myself short. I took the time off to spend in prayer. To spend time figuring out the direction of my own life. What did I learn? That day by day I must listen to God's voice and heed his guidance. And take it one step at a time. But in a way that will keep my spirit singing.
So I decided to take up dance again. The need to get back to my first love and the voice of my spirit. So I am training in Oriental dance(belly dance); Bollywood, Hip Hop and Flamenco. Training about 3-6 hrs a day and feeling fantastic. I can feel my emotions and my heart opening and as I have begun working again have realized a freedom in my work.
I am now looking to begin performing and streamlining my work. Tired of being pulled in so many places, I am learning to say no and trust the right opportunities will make themselves known. Which means not going after every little gig and job I am not absolutely hot about. It also means not trying to fit into someone else's mold of what I should be and how I should present myself.
I will talk more about being true to yourself in the next Balancing Act. Please look for it soon.
However, now back in full swing... I am finishing up some final filming for CURSE OF THE SMOKE O LANTERN which is due out later this year - check out the poster in my gallery section.
I finished a print job for Harrah's in Lake Tahoe and am in rehearsals for upcoming dance performances.
Great news - THE CROW PURGATORY II was accepted into this year's Short Film Corner at - Festival De Cannes in France! Pretty exciting!! Check out the site for more festival viewings.
My new headshots should be up shortly and I have begun interviews with agents. I am off to LA for a week with Toni Suttie busy meeting and auditioning! This should be a lot of fun!
So, I am off but I re-enter with a joy and faith that as long as I am true to who God made when he made me, I will be just fine!
