Balancing Act - Issue 3: Section 3
Q What about soy?
A Soy is tricky. I never eat soy isolates which is in almost every protein bar, soy protein shakes, etc. There is way too much controversy over it. I will only eat soy in its whole form such as Tofu.
My husband and I had a talk about this (he is half Japanese) and he said even the Japanese don't eat that much soy and if they do it isn't processed like we eat it here in America. Why we feel we have to tinker with everything is beyond me.
Also, only eat organic. Since all non-organic soy is geneticlly modified!! And since we still don't know what GMO's will do to our bodies, I would suggest not taking a chance. Again, why not eat food the way God intended? Pure and simple.
Q Can I ever have a treat?
I have a cheat meal once a week. Usually a Saturday (or on the day of a special occasion or holiday) and I eat whatever I want for that 1 meal. The key here is to savor that meal, tasting each and very bite. Relish in it. Food was made for us to enjoy. So enjoy it! But just 1 meal a week. The next meal should be right back on plan.
*** I still try to avoid hydrogenated fats, food colorings and chemicals even for my cheat meal. I feel since I am a real person, I am going to eat real food!!
I appreciate your feedback and questions and am excited to hear many of you are making great changes. Hopefully at this point you are adding in variety to your workouts, increasing your weights and seeing changes in your body. Keep going. Try new workouts, new classes, get your bike out and start riding it. Take that jog around the school track. Play tennis. Go to the bookstore and get some more work out books to add to your weight training collection and try one new exercise a week. Most importantly, have fun and don't give up!!!
Until next month,
Sharise
