Balancing Act - Issue 5: Section 1
TO SUPPLEMENT OR NOT TO SUPPLEMENT
This month I want to talk about supplementation. I am a strong believer in supplementing diets with quality vitamins, herbs and minerals. Because our ground is deplete of minerals and vitamins due to overuse of the land for planting and because of the time it takes for the food to get from the farm onto the table as well as the high levels of stress, pollutants and toxins we encounter daily, I believe supplements are a must have. I also believe that quality vitamins along with a changes in my diet is what helped me heal from disease.
The operative word here is "quality". I have spent years in researching the best vitamins and supplements to take and what I have learned is that the "one a day" from your basic grocery or drug store just won't do- in fact because most of them are synthetic- they can actually be harmful for the body. When looking for a good supplement think natural and balanced. This is very important.
Although I take different supplements at different times( if I am highly stressed, sick cleansing, etc.) I do have a basic protocol which I will share with you.
First, I start off with a good quality vitamin. One of my favorites is ALL ONE, a powder vitamin and mineral that you add to juice or water. Powder and liquid vitamins are great because your body doesn't have to digest them and they quickly go to work in your body. ALL ONE has many different formulations depending on your needs and depending on your choice, you can even get 3 servings of vegetables or fruits in one serving. It is not the best tasting stuff around but if you mix it in a shaker cup with juice, it's not bad.
