I also believe in a good probiotic which supports the good bacteria in your gut and keeps yeast and other undesirable bacteria from making you sick. If you have ever been on antibiotics, have ever eaten huge amounts of starches, sugar, etc. The balance of your good to bad bacteria is likely off and this lowers your immune system. A probiotic returns you to balance, and the one I like is Dr Ohhira's Essential Formulas Probiotic 12.
Finally I also make sure I take in essential fats such as Flax or fish oil. Essential fats are needed by the body but it can not be made by the body. You must supplement. Make sure if you use Flax it is organic and if you use fish, it has been tested to be free of toxins such as PCB's . Carlson's is a great brand for fish oil.. Note: In the winter or if you do not spend anytime in the sun use Cod liver oil for natural vitamin D. However, if you spend 20 or more min. out in the sun daily, switch to fish oil which is low in vitamin D.
Finally, sunshine. You may not think of sunshine as a supplement but it is sunshine that helps the body produce Vitamin D. Vitamin D is extremely important and studies are showing that a lack of it in the body can lead to disease and illness. Now you may be afraid to go out in the sun however 20 mins a day is suitable for Vitamin D production and is a safe amount of time to be in the sun. Sun is not the evil enemy we have been taught -overexposure is. If you are going to spend more than 20 mins in the sun apply a natural sunblock with zinc or titanium oxide at the 20 min mark.
