Life can throw some serious curveballs, can’t it? When the sh*t hits the fan, it’s easy to feel like you’re drowning in the mess all by yourself. I’ve been there, and I’m sharing my story because I know so many of you are in the same boat—and maybe, just maybe, it’ll help you feel a little less alone. Side note: I know this post’s picture is a bit on the humorous side, but when things get heavy, sometimes we need a good laugh to keep from crying! Let’s get real about the challenges we’re facing and how group coaching—especially the amazing group I was part of, led by a phenomenal coach—helped me find my way through.

The Weight of It All

A World in Chaos
The world just seems like a mess sometimes, doesn’t it? There’s so much division, unrest, and uncertainty swirling around us, leaving people feeling more isolated than ever. It’s enough to make anyone feel frightened, depressed, or anxious.

Personal Battles on Top
And then there’s the personal stuff. So many of us are dealing with job loss, illness, or the loss of loved ones—it’s a heavy load to carry. I know what it’s like to feel completely alone, crushed under the weight of it all. When my husband was really ill with Lyme disease and polyneuropathy, every day brought new challenges. It was an up-and-down rollercoaster, sometimes changing hour by hour. I was nose-deep in research, trying to figure out what he should eat, what supplements he needed, juggling doctors’ visits and tests. The fear and stress were overwhelming—even simple chores like taking out the trash, putting oil in the car, or filling up the gas tank felt like climbing a mountain.

Family Struggles, No Support
I couldn’t turn to my family for support—they were facing their own battles. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy, and on my side, my mom, who had late-stage dementia, didn’t even remember who I was. I felt I had to be strong for them, so turning to family wasn’t an option. My kids were there, but they had their own lives—my son was preparing for deployment overseas, one daughter was busy with her two little ones, and my other daughter was juggling work and school. As their mom, I didn’t think it was their place to carry my burdens.

Friends Weren’t Enough
Sure, I had friends, but many were dealing with their own struggles, and I didn’t want to add to their load—or worse, be pitied. You know how friends can be—sometimes in their effort to make you feel better, they accidentally make you feel worse. God love ’em, but I needed more than sympathy. There were days I felt so tired, scared, and devastated that I’d sit in my car just to cry, hiding my tears from my husband. Seeing the fear and despair in his eyes broke my heart—he’d say things like, “Just sitting here useless again,” barely able to walk some days. It was so hard on both of us.

The Power of Group Coaching

A Lifeline in the Darkness
While I leaned on prayer, I still felt like I had no one to turn to—no one to share the raw, messy truth of what I was going through and help me find a way forward. That’s when I found a lifeline in group coaching. I thank God every day for the group I joined, led by an incredible coach. I’d originally signed up for goal-setting and strategizing, but during this dark time, that group became my safe haven. It wasn’t just a place to cry—though I did plenty of that—it was a space to get real strategies to move forward. My coach created an environment where I could be honest without feeling judged or guilty, and I didn’t have to put on a brave face. I could just be me, broken and all, and still feel seen, heard, and like I mattered.

The Strength of Community
What made the group so powerful was the community—it wasn’t a pity party, but a place for real progress. I wasn’t alone in my struggles—other women in the group were facing their own battles, and we held space for each other to share and grow. Hearing their stories reminded me I wasn’t the only one feeling overwhelmed, and sharing mine gave me a sense of connection I’d been missing. My coach didn’t just listen—she guided us with practical strategies, not sympathy. She helped me see that I needed to take care of myself, even in the middle of the chaos, and that I couldn’t give up on myself, my loved ones, or my dreams—And that God was there right beside me.That group coaching experience taught me something profound: we’re stronger together.

A Fresh Perspective with Real Strategies
Being part of a group gave me an outside perspective I couldn’t find on my own—it was like someone clearing the fog so I could see the path ahead. This wasn’t just about venting; it was about moving forward with real, actionable strategies. My coach and the group helped me plan small, manageable steps to support my family without feeling like I had to do it all at once—they weren’t there to pity me, but to push me forward. They reminded me to trust that this was all in God’s hands, to hold onto hope, and to ask for help when I needed it. We brainstormed practical ways to manage my anxiety and fear, like taking five minutes each morning to pray and breathe, which grounded me in faith and gave me the strength to keep going.

Gratitude for My Group
I’m so grateful for that group and the coach who led it. They didn’t just help me survive—they gave me the tools to find my footing again. I started to see light at the end of the tunnel, not just for me but for my husband too. We will get through difficult times, and we can come out stronger and better than before—but we don’t have to do it alone.

For Immediate Help

If you or a loved one are in a crisis situation, please don’t hesitate to reach out for immediate support. Call the Suicide Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988—you’re not alone, and help is just a call away.

A Pain That Echoes: My Mother

Seven years ago, my mother had several mini-strokes brought on by her Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. She developed severe vascular dementia—a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the brain from strokes—and lost her memory until she passed away two years ago.

She forgot that her parents had passed and cried out for them. She forgot who her children and grandchildren were, never got a chance to know her great-grandchildren. And most days, she forgot who my stepdad was, after 40 years of marriage.

Though she had lucid moments, they got fewer and fewer as her dementia took over. As you can imagine, or maybe you’ve lived it, this was extremely painful.

I remember having conversations every day with my mom, and many debates. She was a bright, intelligent woman, and then she could barely speak. She got confused, agitated, so scared, didn’t remember where she was, who the people around her were, and just cried out, “I want to go home”, her childhood home that she could recall. This was a very painful experience for her and everyone around her.

And maybe this could have all been prevented, she was a stubborn woman, and even when warned by her doctors, refused to make any changes in her diet and lifestyle. “That’s what my medicine is for”, was her retort whenever changes were suggested, she just decided to rely on her medication, continued to live life like she always had.

My relationship with her was never easy, a jagged wound. She was smart, vibrant, but carried deep, unhealed pain—an unfulfilled, unlived life that left her, I believe, never truly happy. Her own trauma, buried in the silence of an era where women hid abuse—or faced being medicated, locked away, or worse—spilled onto us kids, carving emotional and spiritual scars.

I carried trauma from her choices, resentment for the hurt she caused. When dementia took her, I was angry, she left us to pick up the pieces of a woman who’d already broken so much.

It took time and work to find compassion, to see her pain was trapped in a time with no resources, no voice to heal. I had to let go of unforgiveness and the painful past—I had to release them. She wasn’t all bad or good, just human, caught in quiet torment.

Choices Matter

Your choices carry weight—not just for you, but for your kids, your loved ones, the ones who’ll carry your pain if you don’t heal. My mother’s inability to face her trauma—and her unwillingness to care for her physical health—left us kids scarred, my children grieving a grandma they’ll never truly know, and me bearing the weight of her unhealed wounds. She ignored her doctors’ warnings, dismissed changes to her diet and lifestyle, and that choice, alongside her buried pain, rippled outward, breaking those who loved her.

Every decision we make—to cling to resentment, to neglect our health, to let pain fester—shapes the lives of those who love us. But, you have the power to break that cycle, to spare them the resentment and grief I lived with. Choose to heal your heart, your spirit, your body, because your loved ones deserve a you who’s whole—not a shadow lost to pain.

That choice starts with one step—crossing the threshold.

Step Over the Threshold

In a quiet moment of prayer and meditation, one day, I asked out loud, “What’s holding me back?” In my mind’s eye, I saw a threshold. On one side—my children, grandchildren, a vibrant me—God’s outstretched hand waiting. All I had to do was cross. So why didn’t I? It was just one step over the threshold, what was holding me back?

I thought of toxic friendships—past their expiration date—behaviors I clung to for security, fear, my need to control, beliefs that didn’t serve me—all had to stay behind. It was scary, felt heavy, and the progress seemed slow. Then I remembered pregnancy and labor. it was uncomfortable—sometimes miserable—but worth it for the joy of the new life I would hold in my arms. Birthing a new you is no different—it can be challenging and slow—like labor—but crossing that threshold is how you live fully into your God-given destiny.

By healing your trauma—your emotional and spiritual pain—you heal generations forward—your kids, grandkids—and backward—honoring those like my mother who couldn’t heal in their era’s silence.

Do It for Your Kids and Those Who Love You

Your kids, your loved ones need you whole, alive, present. Why let unhealed trauma, emotional pain, spiritual wounds rob you of time with them? Why let ill-health steal your vitality, leaving them to mourn a shadow of who you could be? We have choices—knowledge about wellness and trauma—the freedom to seek help without shame. Unlike our mothers—we can break the cycle of pain—resentment—grief—that leaves loved ones picking up our pieces. Don’t let your kids face the agony I carried—mourning a mother lost to a shell of herself.

As a Strategic Intervention Coach and Holistic Practitioner, I’m passionate about guiding you to step over that threshold—to heal your heart, body, and soul—sparing your kids and those who love you the weight of your unhealed wounds. Your choices shape their lives—their hearts—their futures.

If you won’t do it for you—do it for them. Step over that threshold today—start healing.

Okay, let’s be real—some mornings, working out feels like climbing a mountain with a backpack full of bricks. Today was one of those days for me. I spent a solid 15 minutes arguing with myself: “Do I workout, or do I just skip it?” I had a crazy busy day ahead, and honestly, exercise was nowhere near the top of my list. But then I made a deal with myself: “Just give it 10 minutes, Sharise. If you still feel like quitting, you can stop.” Spoiler alert: those 10 minutes turned into 20. No, I didn’t get in my full hour-long workout, but I’m still feeling like a total champ!

Let’s talk about how to keep your healthy habits alive, even on the days you’re just not feeling it, Leading Lady Solutions style—because you leave the legacy you live.

From Excuses to Energy: My Morning Win

Here’s the deal—I could’ve easily let my busy schedule be the perfect excuse to skip my workout. And trust me, I was this close to giving in. But I thought, “If I skip today, it’ll be so much easier to skip tomorrow (my schedule isn’t getting any lighter)… and the next day… and pretty soon, I’ll be back to square one.” So, I gave myself permission to start small—just 10 minutes. And you know what? Once I got moving, those 10 minutes turned into 20, and I felt energized, proud, and ready to tackle my day. (Side note: if I hadn’t wasted time arguing with myself, I could’ve squeezed in even more time—geez, Sharise, get it together!).

That little win reminded me of something big: even a short burst of movement can shift your whole mood and energy. It’s not about doing your usual hour-long sweat session—it’s about showing up for yourself, even when you don’t feel like it. On those crazy, chaotic days, just give it 10 minutes—or heck, even 5! The key is to do something, stay in your groove, and keep your healthy habits growing strong. Because let’s face it: once we start making excuses for why we “can’t” one day, it gets way too easy to keep making them the next—and that goes for more than just our workouts!

Small Steps, Big Impact: Keep Showing Up

Here’s the magic of starting small: it’s a win you can build on. Those 10 minutes didn’t just get my blood pumping—they reminded me I’m stronger than my excuses. And that strength? It’s a God-given gift we’re meant to honor. Whether it’s a quick walk, a few stretches, or a dance party in your kitchen, every little move counts. It keeps you in the game, boosts your energy, and sets you up to tackle your day with a smile—not to mention the pride of knowing you didn’t let excuses win.

So, on those days when you’re feeling overwhelmed, busy, or just plain “meh,” don’t aim for perfection—aim for progress. Tell yourself, “Just 5 minutes,” and see where it takes you. More often than not, you’ll surprise yourself with what you can do. And if you’re still not feeling it after 5? That’s okay—give yourself grace, but celebrate showing up anyway. You’re building a legacy of wellness, one small step at a time, and that’s what Leading Lady Solutions is all about—you leave the legacy you live. And our Leading Lady legacy isn’t a legacy filled with excuses.

Join Leading Lady Solutions

Don’t let excuses steal your healthy habits—small wins add up to big victories! Whether it’s 5 minutes of movement or a quick prayer to center yourself, every step forward keeps you on the path to unstoppable wellness.

I’m at a health conference, and some movement expert’s yammering away about why we need to move, spouting science while we’re all stuck in chairs, stiff as boards from sitting all day. What do you know? I’m bored out of my mind, itching to yell, “Stop telling us—just get us up and moving! Let us feel it!” I guess I’m just venting. I believe in experiencing what I’m teaching—the dancer and actress in me, I guess. It’s how I roll: experiential—get it in your body, and you’ll get it. Knowledge isn’t just in our brains; it’s in every cell of our bodies. The best way to learn is to have the physical and mental experience. Okay, done venting.

Our bodies are meant to move; it’s intuitive, not some lecture’s blah, blah, blah. I’ve spilled that science tea before—check my What is Fitness? blog, if you’re into it. But the real question is: why aren’t we acting on what we already know? We know our bodies are built to move. It’s a deeper knowing, hardwired in us. Watch a baby toddle; she doesn’t Google “benefits of walking.” She just goes, driven by instinct.

Most people get stuck not because they’re clueless, but because they don’t act. Beliefs like “I’m not athletic” or “I’m too old” chain us down. The mind’s a sneaky beast, but there’s a way through, and it starts with a story that yanked me out of my darkest hole.

My Darkest Hour, Luigi’s a Light

I was at my lowest when doctors said I’d end up in a wheelchair, my dancing days done. Hope was a ghost, and I was drowning in “can’t,” convinced I’d never move again. Imagine how you would feel if you thought your body was done for. In that pit, God brought me Luigi—Eugene Louis Faccuito—a jazz dancer whose comeback became my lifeline. His story wasn’t just inspiration; it was a kick in the pants to listen to my inner knowing and fight. Maybe his story—his grit and faith— moves you, like it did me.

Luigi’s Comeback That Lit a Fire

Alright, let’s talk about Luigi—Eugene Faccuito to his mom—a scrappy Ohio kid born in 1925 to Italian immigrant parents, handsome, talented, and destined to be a star. Picture him as a kid, singing and dancing on street corners after his dad died in a car accident in 1930, hustling to help his family. By his teens, he’s winning amateur contests, filling in for Dean Martin with big bands, and touring as a vaudeville performer—all before 20. In 1946, after his WWII Navy service, he hits Hollywood at the age of 21.

With looks, talent, everything that would make him a star, he was ready to light up movie musicals—until a car crash flips his world.

Thrown from the passenger seat on a rainy Los Angeles street, he hits the pavement head first, skidding into a telephone pole. A shattered skull, two-month coma, and paralysis down one side leave him crumpled. Docs swear he’ll never walk again. His face stays scarred, double vision killing his leading-man dreams.

Luigi’s stuck in a hospital bed, body betraying him, but something—grit, God, or gut—whispers, “Never stop moving, kid.” It’s a lifeline, and he grabs it like it’s his last shot. He starts small, twitching fingers, stretching arms, forcing his body to wake up. He’s not chasing lab-coat stats; he’s leaning into that raw, gut-level knowing, the kind that gets a baby on her feet. He convinces a friend who owns a dance studio to let him train there, and let me tell you, he falls so many times he bloodies the floors.

But through those falls, over three years, he develops therapeutic stretches, a process of breathing and movement, teaching himself to stand at the barre, then move on his own. In a year, he’s shuffling, then strutting, training like his life’s on the line.

By 1949, a talent scout catches him, and bam—he’s dancing in the chorus of MGM’s On the Town with Gene Kelly, who dubs him “Luigi” to dodge a name clash.

On set, those stretches keep him moving, and soon, dancers—10, 20 at a time—are copying him, drawn to his flow. Choreographer Robert Alton sees it and says, “That’s a style—teach it.”

By 1951, Luigi’s running jazz classes in L.A., then hits New York in 1956 for Broadway. His studio becomes a hotspot, not just for stars like Liza Minnelli, Twyla Tharp, and John Travolta, but for regular folks—people recovering from strokes and injuries—who came to him to rebuild their bodies with his technique.

His method, born from those bloody studio floors, becomes the world’s first real jazz dance system—alignment, balance, “feeling from the inside,” as he’d say: “To dance, put your hand on your heart and listen to the sound of your soul.” He even gives us the “5, 6, 7, 8” count we all know. Luigi didn’t just get back on his feet; he danced his way into history, building jazz dance with a fire that screams, “Keep moving, no matter what.” The New York Times called him “the father of American jazz dancing” when he passed at 90 on April 7, 2015, leaving a legacy that still moves us.

My Comeback Fire

Luigi’s story was a lifeline when I was facing a future confined to a wheelchair, my dancing days seemingly over. I wasn’t stuck from ignorance—I knew movement mattered. It was fear and a head full of “can’t” that held me down. Luigi’s fight—dragging himself from paralysis through sheer will—shoved me off the sidelines. If he could move again, who was I to quit? His words, “Never stop moving, kid,” burned in me, pushing me to act on my own knowing. It took me two years, but I regained my strength to walk and dance again. To honor the man who sparked my comeback, I got certified in the Luigi technique and now share his moves in my Steps~n~Styles dance class, passing on that grit, joy, and passion to keep moving, no matter what. It’s not about flashy steps; it’s about tapping into that inner fire and acting on it.

Why We Don’t Move

It’s not a lack of knowledge holding us back—our bodies ache to move, like a kid chasing her first steps. Knowledge itself can be paralyzing, piling on reasons that keep us stuck. The real hurdle is those beliefs we drag around like overstuffed suitcases: “I’m not athletic,” “I’m too old,” “I’ll look ridiculous.” Those thoughts are mental quicksand, sinking us before we start. We overthink until the cows come home, but the truth is, you don’t need to be a gym rat or a dancer like Luigi, and you don’t need more reasons why. You just need to listen to that gut-deep knowing screaming or gently whispering, “Get moving!” and take the first step.

Takeaways to Get Moving

Movement is your birthright, not a chore. Forget the expert lectures spouting science like I heard at that conference—your body already knows what to do. These aren’t rules—they’re your nudge to act on that inner knowing, not some PhD’s playbook. Get moving, as Luigi said. Just keep moving.

Here’s how to ditch the excuses and start, relying on you, not some expert’s knowledge:

Call Out the Lie: Write down one belief holding you back (e.g., “I’m not fit enough”). Flip it to “I can move my way.” Stick it on your fridge.

Start Stupid Small: Commit to 5 minutes—walk to the mailbox, stretch during a commercial, or boogie to a tune. Small wins spark fire.

Channel Luigi: When doubt creeps in, hear Luigi’s “Never stop moving, kid.” If he beat paralysis, what’s anyone’s excuse?

Pick Your Joy: Choose a movement you like—garden, dance to Motown, or chase the dog. If it’s fun, you’ll keep going.

Claim Your Space: Clear a corner in your home for movement. A rug or open floor says, “This is where I move.”

Own the Win: After moving, give yourself a mental high-five. You’re not just exercising—you’re honoring your body’s—and spirit’s—spark.

Join My Wise & Wild Path

I’m all about real ways to live who we were designed to be—with a nod to grit and heart. Luigi’s story proves our intuition drives us to move.

Order Sparks Clarity

As a strategic life coach, I thrive on clarity, and a clean, organized, decluttered home, or office, keeps me grounded and focused. Staying on top of my space saves time, energy, and sanity. Letting messes pile up and to-do lists overflow? That’s a fast track to stress, overwhelm, and a grumpy mood. Just imagine stepping into a home that’s orderly and clean—it’s like a warm hug, delivering peace and comfort. With my A+ personality, a tidy home is my anchor in a chaotic world.

Maybe your place looks like a garage sale gone rogue. The good news is you can create a sanctuary that lifts your spirit. Let’s start with why your home should be your refuge.

Your Home, Your Retreat

A healthy home doesn’t have you cursing, scrambling for your blankity-blankity-blankity-blank-blank keys. That chaos kills the “Ah, I’m home” feel. Your space should feel like a cozy embrace, a shield from the world’s noise. Size doesn’t matter—I turned a one-bedroom apartment into a snug haven for four. Fancy or plain, it’s about building a retreat where you and your family can breathe easy. My knack for order started young, rooted in moments that shaped me.

Comfort in Chaos

I was a neat freak even as a kid. A made bed, clothes tucked away, and everything in its place were my shield against life’s storms. No matter how rough my day, a tidy room was my safe spot, a quiet jab at life’s disorder. That passion for order carried into adulthood, sharpened by some less-than-glamorous gigs that taught me the ropes.

Housekeeper with Grit

While raising my son and grinding through college, I tackled cleaning jobs—hotels, restaurants, you name it. I snagged “Housekeeper of the Month” at a hotel multiple times and aced early-morning restaurant shifts. Until I walked in one day and saw “rice” scooting across the floor. Nope, I was out—the only job I ever ditched, with zero regrets. Those days showed me how to turn any space into a sanctuary, a skill I love sharing with others.

Sharing the Serenity

I get a kick out of helping friends and family organize their homes. It’s as natural as making a meat stock or sneaking in a quick stretch. I love sharing tricks to make any space—palace or shoebox—a haven where love thrives. Picture a home that feels like you, free of clutter’s nonsense. Here’s how to start crafting your own sanctuary with practical, no-fuss steps.

Build Your Sanctuary, Step by Step

A healthy home shouldn’t make you want to hide under the covers. Tackle small messes before they turn into gremlins. Big piles? Don’t panic—chip away room by room. Like a holistic living approach, little moves bring big reward. What’s great is you can start today with these real-deal tips I’ve honed over years:

One Spot, One Win: Clear a single area (e.g., a junk drawer) in 10 minutes. Sort into keep, toss, or donate piles. Do it daily to keep chaos at bay.

Key Haven: Set a bowl or hook by the door for keys and essentials. No more morning meltdowns or cursing marathons over lost keys.

Clean as You Go: As you leave a room, glance back and ask, “Did I leave it as it was or better?” Snag that stray mug or sock—it’s quick. I taught my kids this habit, and now they’re passing it on to theirs.

Put It Away Right Away: Don’t let dishes or laundry linger. Put things back immediately to avoid pile-ups. I also drilled this into my kids growing up, and it’s a sanity-saver.

Nightly Reset: Spend 5 minutes before bed tidying counters or fluffing pillows. It’s like a quick reset for your home’s soul.

Team Rally: Get kids to stash toys, husbands to wipe surfaces. Make it a fun competition against the clock or in teams. Blast some tunes—cleaning’s less grim with a beat.

Monthly Clear-Out: Ditch one unused item (e.g., that sweater you hate, expired spices). It’s like giving your home a fresh haircut.

One In, One Out: Do you need five pairs of black leggings? When you buy something new, swap it for an old item to keep clutter in check.

Add Your Spark: Place a favorite photo, candle, or plant in a cleared spot. Make it yours, not an Instagram wannabe.

Twice a year, clear the clutter: I used birthdays and Christmas to sort through items my kids outgrew or things no longer serving us, then donated them.

Oh yeah, Make Your Bed: This quick, simple act sparks tidiness and a confident tone, like a mini win to kickstart your day with purpose.

These steps, like the mantra I taught my kids—“leave it the same, or better”—build a sanctuary that feels like a hug. With your space in order, it’s time to live in it fully.

Live Loud, Love Deep

Your home’s for living, not some sterile showroom. While we love to keep things tidy, savor the toys scattered by kids or grandkids—those moments are gold, and they fly by. Just nudge them to tidy up when done, with a wink. Relish the kitchen chaos after a home-cooked meal, then rope everyone into scrubbing—teamwork makes the dishes less of a drag. A healthy home is where love runs wild, bursting with laughter and memories. You’re meant for a space that’s alive with heart, not a Pinterest fantasy. What you get is a home that holds your joy, mess and all.

Takeaways to Shape Your Haven

Your home shapes your peace, so make it yours. Start today: clear one small spot, like a cluttered shelf, to feel the calm. Set a 5-minute nightly tidy to keep chaos in check. Create a spot for keys to end the frantic hunts. Live by “clean as you go”—look back and leave every room better. Put things away right away to stop piles before they start. Rally your family for quick, fun cleanups—think dance party, not drudgery. Let go of one unused item this week to lighten up. Embrace the lived-in mess—love, laugh, and let memories bloom. These aren’t just tasks; they’re your blueprint for a home that feels like peace.

Join My Real-Deal Path

Finding Inspiration

I’ve been immersed in Seth Godin’s The Practice: Shipping Creative Work. It’s inspiring and packed with practical insights. The idea I’m hooked on? Committing to the practice—the process—of creative work, not the product, the end result.

Maybe you’re chasing goals too. Maybe you’re stuck on outcomes. You’re designed for a journey that’s about growth, not just the finish line.

Breaking Old Habits

I struggle with this concept. I’ve always been goal-obsessed, racing from one target to the next. The end result was everything; the steps to get there were just hurdles to clear fast. I didn’t enjoy the process or savor the journey. If I didn’t hit my goal quickly, I saw it as pointless. If I failed, I felt like a total failure.

I skipped celebrating small wins, got discouraged by mistakes, and missed the value of the practice. I was too focused on the next goal.

Returning to Dance

Returning to dance training after a long break was tough. I had to start from scratch—out of shape, feeling past my prime. All I knew was I needed to dance again. I set a schedule and small goals but had no clue about my purpose. Did I want to perform? Teach? No big picture in mind, and that scared me.

Seth Godin’s words hit home: “It’s juggling. Throw and throw, and one day the catching will take care of itself.” I took it to mean my skills and purpose would clarify if I committed to the practice.

Showing Up Always

Another gem from Seth: commit to the practice, no matter how you feel. Show up even when you’re not inspired, not “in the flow,” or when the muse is gone. So I did. I’m committed to the practice, not the day’s outcome. I show up whether I feel it or not, even on crappy practice days—and there’ve been plenty. I’m committed, even without knowing what I’ll do with it.

This is new territory for me. Trusting the process without a clear goal is freaky but freeing. I’m more in tune with my dancing than ever, and it’s pure joy.

Letting Go

I’m letting go of expectations, silencing the demanding voices of old teachers, choreographers, and directors screaming for more. From this place of focusing on the process, not the result, I’m finding my expression and soul in my work again. I’m rediscovering myself. I’m breathing. To me, it’s beautiful.

This self-discovery is reshaping my midlife comeback. Seth’s book is one I’ll revisit—its ideas feel timeless and vital for every step of my journey.

Join My Path

At 55, when I hear someone—my age or younger—say what they can’t do because of age, I tune it out. I’m Teflon—those words don’t stick. I’ve walked through abuse, abandonment, and loss. I’ve risen above depression, anxiety, and a disease that tried to take me down. Age? It’s got nothing on me.

Maybe you’ve heard those limits too—people saying you’re “too old” to chase what lights you up. Maybe you’ve felt that doubt creep in. I’m here to say: That’s bull—don’t buy into it! You were meant for more.

Owning My Years

I’m getting older, and I’m all in for it. At 55, I’m wiser, more grounded, and done with nonsense. I’ve stopped caring what others think, let go of pointless arguments, and learned to love deeper. But getting older doesn’t mean getting old. My mind stays sharp, my heart young, my dreams and goals still burning.

Maybe you’re feeling that shift—owning your strength but fighting to keep your fire. You can keep it alive. You were created for a life that’s bold and true.

Breaking Every Boundary

I won’t let age define me. Holistic living—staying fit, eating well, and fueling my spirit with what keeps me vibrant. I push past obstacles, break boundaries, jump into new adventures, and following His lead every step of the way.

You don’t have to hold back either. Whether it’s moving, dreaming, or creating, you’re meant to live free, to live bold, to live well.

Defining My Age

Age is just a freakin’ number. I’m 55, (actually, almost 56) and I decide how old I am—alive, fierce, unstoppable. You get to decide too. Don’t let years—or false beliefs (yours or someone else’s) box you in. Keep dreaming, keep moving, keep living big. The next generation is watching.

I’m dancing my defiance, and I’m cheering for you to do the same.

The Hard Restart

I remember when coming back to dance training felt like a pipe dream. After closing my performance school, I hadn’t really trained—reeeally trained—for almost 8 years. I was sluggish, out of shape, my diet was a mess, and I felt so discouraged. But I was determined to begin again. My soul needed to dance.

Maybe you’re there—feeling stuck, like starting over is too tough. Maybe you’ve tried before, or it feels impossible, or you feel too old. Here’s a gentle reminder, you were designed for more.

Barely Moving Forward

Back then, it was a brutal start. I could barely get through an hour of class without being breathless, my feet and legs screaming. Staying motivated was the worst—some days, I’d bend over my barre and just groan, “God, I’m so frikkin’ out of shape,” feeling like giving up, feeling old—feeling like maybe it was time to just surrender to being a midlife woman living a midlife misery.

But I promised myself to go slow. Just one more exercise, 5 more minutes. I’d argue with myself (yep, I’m my own debate club), pushing to keep going. That’s where I was—but now, I’m dancing again, stronger every day.

Small Steps, Big Faith

I tossed out negative beliefs—like clothes that no longer fit. I made a schedule, and set small goals—big ones seemed too far off. I started eating to fuel my body, not my stress or emotions. With patience, self-care, a ton of faith, and some gritty mindset work, I got back to dancing full-time—and I’m aiming to leap higher.

You don’t need to be perfect. Maybe you’re juggling life’s chaos—family, work, self-doubt. I’ve been there. And I’m proof, you can start your midlife comeback. Every small step is a win worth celebrating.

Five-Minute Challenge

I challenge you to do just 5 minutes of what you’re yearning for—or something that just sounds fun! 5 minutes of dance, stretch, or something to spark your journey towards a holistic life—a life that feeds your body, mind, and soul. Your midlife comeback starts with just taking that first move, that simple, first step.

One place to start is in one of my classes coming to SPBTV. Classes made just for us midlife women living with purpose and passion. Midlife women ready to live their best lives now!

You were created for this—all you gotta do is get the ball rolling.

The Toughest Fight

I’ve been a fighter since I was 6, scrapping to survive in a world that didn’t pull punches. I’ve faced battles—abuse, loss, despair—and I’ve got the scars to show for it. But the toughest enemy? The one inside me. The voice of doubt, fear, the part of me tearing myself down. You know that fight, don’t you?

Maybe you’re battling that inner voice too—the one that says you’re not enough. Maybe you’re exhausted from the war. I’m telling you: you were created for more than this struggle.

Hope, Not War

I used to think winning meant fighting harder—grinding, judging, hating parts of myself. But the real win didn’t come from beating myself down, it came through accepting all I am—then growing into who I was created to be. It’s choosing hope over fear, love over war, peace over chaos. It’s seeing ourselves through God’s eyes. That’s how I clawed out of despair to a life I built on purpose—one where I’m free, not caged.

You don’t have to keep warring with yourself. You can be well, and self-acceptance is the first step—flaws and all. You were designed for a life that is whole, not broken.

My Revolution

I’m done fighting me. I’ve learned to love the woman I am—scars, stumbles, and all, and learned to appreciate those scars in helping me become who I am today. That’s my revolution, that’s the heart of SPBTV, my new network where I’ll share classes, programs, and shows to help you go from being your own enemy to becoming whole and putting the pieces back together. Stepping out in faith to become the woman that inspires your family, your world.

You’re meant to ignite your own revolution. Let go of fear, lean into hope, and start your midlife comeback by loving who you are right now—just as God does.

Listen up, ladies—bath time isn’t just for splashing around or scrubbing off the day. It’s your chance to hit reset, detox your mind, body, and spirit, and walk out feeling like a radiant leading lady! I’m all about keeping it real, and my bathtime ritual is no exception—no overpriced spa, just simple, natural ingredients that work like a charm. You know I’m all about guiding you to ditch the junk and live pure, and this luxurious detox soak is a cornerstone of that life.

Ready to turn your tub into a sanctuary? Let’s dive into my step-by-step ritual.

Step 1: Set the Mood with Beeswax Candles

What to Do: Dim the lights, light a couple of beeswax candles, and place them safely around your bathroom (no towel bonfires, please). Let the soft glow and subtle honey scent wash over you as you prepare your bath.

Why It Works: Beeswax candles burn clean—no toxic fumes like paraffin candles—and their warm light soothes your mind, creating a spa-like feel that screams luxury. It’s a simple way to detox your spirit, letting stress melt away while you connect with your inner calm.

Tip: Never leave candles unattended—safety first! If beeswax is out of budget, soy candles are a decent backup, but nothing beats the real deal.

Step 2: Dry Brush for a Head-to-Toe Glow

What to Do: Grab a natural-bristle dry brush and gently brush your skin in long, upward strokes toward your heart—start at your feet, work up your legs, then hit your arms and torso. Spend 3-5 minutes before hopping in the tub.

Why It Works: Dry brushing sloughs off dead skin (hello, silky smoothness), boosts circulation (think instant energy), and gets your lymphatic system moving (bye-bye, toxins). It’s like a wake-up call for your body, prepping it to soak up all the detox goodness to come.

Tip: Brush gently—your skin’s not a rusty skillet! Do this 2-3 times a week for best results, and always clean your brush with soap and water afterward to keep it fresh.

Step 3: Build Your Detox Bath Blend

What to Do: Fill your tub with warm (not scalding) water and add:

½ cup bentonite clay—sprinkle it in slowly while the water runs to avoid clumps or use a bath bag for easier clean up.

1 cup magnesium bath crystals (or pure Epsom salt).

3-5 drops of your favorite essential oils—lavender for calm, eucalyptus for a detox boost, or orange for a mood lift.

Stir the water to mix it all up, then slide in for a 20-30 minute soak.

Why It Works: Bentonite clay pulls toxins from your skin like a magnet, plus it’s packed with minerals to nourish you. Magnesium crystals melt away muscle tension and boost your body’s magnesium levels—crucial for stress relief. Essential oils work their magic on your spirit, calming your mind or giving you a zesty pick-me-up, depending on what you choose. This trio turns your bath into a detox powerhouse.

Tip: Test essential oils on a small patch of skin first—nobody wants a rash ruining their soak. If clay’s hard to rinse off, use a washcloth or follow with a quick shower.

Step 4: Scrub with Activated Charcoal Soap

What to Do: While soaking, lather up with activated charcoal soap, focusing on areas prone to sweat or grime (armpits, feet, you know the spots). Rinse off in the bathwater or under the shower afterward.

Why It Works: Activated charcoal is like a sponge for impurities—it draws out dirt, oil, and toxins from your skin, leaving you squeaky clean and refreshed. It’s gentle enough for daily use but tough on the gunk, making it perfect for a detox ritual.

Tip: Look for charcoal soap with natural ingredients—skip the fake fragrances. Keep it in a draining dish so it doesn’t turn into a soggy mess.

Step 5: Seal the Deal with Homemade Tallow Balm

What to Do: After your soak, pat dry gently and slather on homemade tallow balm from head to toe—focus on dry spots like elbows, knees, and heels. Massage it in for maximum moisture.

Why It Works: Tallow balm (made from rendered beef fat and natural oils) is a moisturizing superhero—it sinks deep into your skin, locking in hydration and leaving you soft as silk. It’s packed with nutrients like vitamins A and E, helping your skin recover from the detox while keeping it nourished.

Tip: Make your own tallow balm with grass-fed tallow, olive oil, and essential oil for scent—store it in a glass jar. If tallow’s not your thing, coconut oil works too, but it’s less rich.

Step 6: Rest and Recharge

What to Do: Slip into cozy pajamas, sip some herbal tea (chamomile’s my go-to), and let the calm carry you to bed. No screens—just bask in the peace and prep for a restful night’s sleep.

Why It Works: Your body’s been detoxed, your skin’s glowing, and your mind’s at ease—now’s the time to let it all sink in. A good night’s sleep seals the deal, helping your body repair and recharge so you wake up radiant and energized.

Tip: Keep your bedroom cool and dark for the best sleep. If you’re wired from the day, try prayer or meditation to settle your spirit—works like a charm.

The Catch: Keep It Smart
